Statement on Mayor Breed’s Appointment of New Board of Education Commissioners

On Friday, March 11, at Galileo High School, Mayor Breed swore in Ann Hsu, Lainie Motamedi and Lisa Weissman-Ward as new SF Board of Education commissioners. All three are accomplished women and public school parents. They will serve through the end of this year and must seek to be elected in November 2022 to hold their seats. Congratulations to the new commissioners! 

  • Ann Hsu is President of Galileo High School PTSA. She is also Chair of the SFUSD Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. She is an entrepreneur and tech executive with extensive professional knowledge and experience, including financial knowledge and oversight.

  • Lainie Motamedi has been an active parent in the District for 10 years -- on PTAs, SSCs, and as co-chair of the Public Education Enrichment Fund CAC. She has professional experience in both the private and public sectors and has served on the Local Control Accountability Plan Task Force which was created to provide input into SFUSD’s state required strategic and budget plan. 

  • Lisa Weissman-Ward is a law professor and Associate Director of the Stanford Law School Immigrants’ Rights Clinic. A fluent Spanish speaker, she was previously an immigrants’ rights attorney in San Francisco and said many of her clients had children in the district.
